✦ Incahuasi Island, Bolivia
One of the highlights on our trip to South America in 2015 was traversing the highlands from Chile to Bolivia on a 4×4 tour. After two days of driving along beautiful surreal colored mountain lakes, geothermal areas and bizarre rock formations, we finally reached famous Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat. The bright, white salt crust stretches as far as your eyes can see and is covered with honeycomb shaped salt deposits. With no reference points for orientation we immediately lost all feeling for distances or dimensions. But then right in the middle of the endless white plane we reached Isla Incahuasi, an island formed by dark rocks and covered with huge cacti, offering a strange visual contrast to the blinding surroundings.
✦ Arbol de Piedra, Bolivia
Colourful lagoons, bubbling geysirs and endless salt flats: The highland between Chile and Bolivia is until today one of the most stunning landscapes we have ever seen. On our 3 day jeep tour we saw so many amazing things like this famous tree shaped rock formation called „Arbol de Piedra“, which was sculpted by wind and erosion.
